When to ask would you rather questions
Would you rather asks nothing of the players except a choice, so shy people and chatty ones join in on equal terms. One phone passed around is the whole kit: whoever holds it reads the card, then hands it on.
A family road trip
Food and Travel and adventure keep the back seat busy for an hour, and every age can answer the same card.
A sleepover or a rainy afternoon
Funny and Superpowers and magic are made for a room full of friends with nowhere to be.
The first minutes of a class or team meeting
One card from Everyday life gets a quiet group talking, and nobody has to share anything personal.
Ways to play would you rather
Guess the room
Before anyone answers, the reader predicts how many players will take the first option. Then hands go up for each side, and the reader finds out how close the guess was.
Two players, one guess each
With just two of you, each says which option the other will choose before giving a real answer. Right guesses and surprises are both worth a story.
One card per town
On a long drive, read a new card every time you pass a town sign. Players answer with “the first one” or “the second one”, so nobody needs to look at the screen.
Tips for a good game
- The pick is only half the answer. Ask “why?” every time, because the reasons are where the stories come out.
- No “neither” allowed. When both options sound odd, choose the one you could live with a little more easily.
- Heart the cards that kept the group talking longest, so the next game starts with a favorite.

How many would you rather questions are there?

Is there a would you rather game for couples?
Yes. Would you rather questions for couples is a game for two on one phone: each of you taps a pick while the other looks away, then both choices appear at once. Its dilemmas are about dates, trips and life at home.
Can kids play, or can I use these in a classroom?
Yes. The questions are written for players from about age ten, with nothing scary, unkind or grown-up in them. A teacher can read one card at the start of a lesson and ask a few students to share their reason in one sentence.
How are these different from this or that questions?
Each card here sets up two small situations, like flying or turning invisible, so answers tend to come with a reason and a bit of talk. This or that questions name two plain things, such as two snacks, and are answered in a second.
