When to plan a morning date

Evenings get what is left of a long day. A morning date gets you both at the start, before the inbox does, and it often leaves the evening free as well.

A busy week

Before work and Morning rituals fit into the half hour you already have.

A free Saturday

Early adventures for a day with a plan, or Breakfast out and in when the plan is simply to eat well.

A Sunday with nothing on

Slow weekend mornings, for when the only goal is to still be in pajamas at ten.

Ways to use these date ideas

Set one alarm earlier

Pick a Before work idea for a weekday and set one alarm thirty minutes early. The day still starts on time, just with each other first.

Seven mornings, one ritual

Draw from Morning rituals on Sunday night and try that card every morning for a week. Keep it if you both miss it on day eight.

Plan the early ones on Friday

Early adventures need a plan the night before. Save a few with the heart, check the forecast on Friday and choose one before bed.

Tips for a good morning date

  • Lay out clothes, keys and the coffee things the night before. An early date goes best when the first ten minutes need no thinking.
  • Check opening hours first: bakeries, markets and cafés can open at six or at nine, and that difference decides the plan.
  • Keep a simple breakfast in the house, like eggs and bread, so a slow morning never starts with a trip to the store.

Thirty to sixty minutes together before the day pulls you in different directions.

  • Bring one thermos and two cups to the bus stop or the platform and share it while you wait.
  • Set the alarm half an hour early for a weekday breakfast sitting down, with real plates and nothing to read.
  • Call the early riser in the family together over coffee, the relative who is always up first and glad to hear from you.
  • Walk barefoot across a dewy lawn for five minutes, coffee in hand, before the shoes go on for the day.
  • Working from home on the same day? Hold your first meeting with each other on the balcony or the step, coffee only.
